LAURENT COURAU

Biographical Note

Author and filmmaker, digital and visual artist, and independent journalist, Laurent Courau closely documents the technological, artistic, and cultural transformations of the 21st century through his films, books, images, and collaborations with the press, radio, and television. With nearly three decades of experience in creating and producing content for both traditional and digital platforms, he has worked with notable entities such as Universal Studios, Microsoft France and Mitsubishi Europe, Future Publishing, the bands Nirvana and Aerosmith, Sony Music, the Eiffel Tower and the Tour de France.

Emerging from a nomadic childhood spent between Italy, Morocco, Libya, India, the Cevennes, and Catalonia, this native of the Latin Quarter finds his way back to Paris, where he becomes involved in the punk, independent and underground music scene of the 1980s as a teenager. Laurent takes advantage of new emerging digital tools to produce his first films through self-production, utilizing whatever resources are available. Always passionate about media and creative technologies, he launches La Spirale, one of the first French-language web magazines, at the dawn of the Internet’s democratization in the mid-1990s.

Residing successively in Greece, Switzerland, France, and New York City, he continues his writing and filmmaking endeavors, producing works such as Mutations pop & crash culture, Vampyres, and The Occult Sources. Laurent remains dedicated to exploring the world passionately, delving into its most peculiar corners. By now crafting dreamlike worlds inspired by his nomadic experiences, he works in harmony with artificial intelligences, which he feeds with his imagination to pay tribute to the landscapes, spirits, witches, and wizards of his journeys.
